AOS 92 Schedules Flu Shot Clinics for Students

Post date: Sep 20, 2017 5:45:17 PM

School-based flu vaccination clinics will be held again this year for students in AOS 92 (Waterville, Winslow, Vassalboro). Clinics will be held in each school.

Young children, people 65 and older, pregnant women, and people with certain health conditions – such as heart, lung or kidney disease, or a weakened immune system – can get much sicker from the flu. The flu can cause high fever and pneumonia, and it can make existing medical conditions worse. It can cause diarrhea and seizures in children. Each year thousands of people die from influenza and even more require hospitalization.

Health Screen and Permission Forms and vaccination information sheets are being sent home to parents so that they can take advantage of this preventive health initiative for their children. The schedule of clinics and vaccine information forms and Health Screen and Permission Forms can also be downloaded from the AOS 92 web site www.aos92.org.

ONLY INJECTABLE VACCINE IS AVAILABLE THIS YEAR. NASAL MIST WILL NOT BE ADMINISTERED.

Getting the flu shot will help to protect school age children, family and members of the community from the risks associated with the flu.

Please fill in the insurance information on the form or make a copy of the student’s insurance card and staple it to the Health Screen and Permission Form. You will NOT receive a bill.

WE NEED PARENT VOLUNTEERS FOR ALL OF OUR CLINICS.

VOLUNTEERS WILL NOT BE INVOLVED WITH ADMINISTRATION OF VACCINE.

IF YOU CAN HELP AT ANY OF THE FLU CLINICS (even if only for a part of the time) PLEASE CONTACT THE SCHOOL NURSE AT THE SCHOOL WHERE YOU CAN VOLUNTEER.
