AOS 92 Schedules Flu Shot Clinics for Students

Post date: Sep 24, 2014 3:35:35 PM

School-based flu vaccination clinics will be held again this year for students in AOS 92 (Waterville, Winslow, Vassalboro). Clinics will be held in each school. The 2014-2015 vaccine provides protection against four different flu viruses.

Young children, people 65 and older, pregnant women, and people with certain health conditions – such as heart, lung or kidney disease, or a weakened immune system – can get much sicker from the flu. The flu can cause high fever and pneumonia, and make existing medical conditions worse. It can cause diarrhea and seizures in children. Each year thousands of people die from influenza and even more require hospitalization.

MaineGeneral and Delta Ambulance will once again partner with AOS 92 to make these clinics a reality. Consent forms and vaccination information sheets are being sent home to parents so that they can take advantage of this preventive health initiative for their children. The schedule of clinics and vaccine information forms and permission slips can also be downloaded from the AOS 92 web site www.aos92.org.

We encourage parents to have their children vaccinated in order to protect children, family and members of the community from the risks associated with the flu.

WE NEED PARENT VOLUNTEERS FOR ALL OF OUR CLINICS. Volunteers will assist with tasks such as escorting students back and forth to vaccination stations and being available for management of student traffic at the clinic. Volunteers pay a key role in these clinics. We need your help. VOLUNTEERS WILL NOT BE INVOLVED WITH ADMINISTRATION OF VACCINE. IF YOU CAN HELP AT ANY OF THE CLINICS (even if only for a portion of the clinic) PLEASE CONTACT THE SCHOOL NURSE IN THE CLINIC WHERE YOU CAN VOLUNTEER.
